PROFILE

Dr. eng. Roberto Chieffigraduated in 1993at Naples University Faculty of Engineering, qualifying to practice in 1994 at the Order of Engineers of the Province of Naples.

From this year he has carried his professional activity first in the “Studio Tecnico Di NataleAssociati” (until 2000) and later in “Alphatech”, which is the administator.

At the same time the engineer Chieffi has worked in the field of scientific research, achieving in 1999 the title of Ph.D. in Hydraulic Engineering and publishing some scientific articles, mainly about maritime and coastal engineering.

In 2009 he achieved the Master in Wastewater and Environmental Engineering at Naples University Faculty of Engineering. During his professional career Eng. Chieffi has gained considerable experience of design and construction management in the civil engineering and particularly in the field of hydraulic engineering; in this regard he has been involved in the design and construction of coastal engineering works and particularly in design of harbours, marinas, coastal protection works, submarine pipelines, etc..

Also he worked in other fields of Hydraulic Engineering, such as water distribution plant, sewer network and treatment plant, fire water plant, drainage network and so on.

As a university professor, I always want to be at the forefront of developing energy projects that have the optimal solutions from the security, sustainability and efficiency aspect. During my academic career, I have been involved in many exciting projects starting from the conventional power system upgrading and the modernization up to timely projects connected to the sustainable development, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and smart grid applications. By being the member of the Norwegian Golf Development team, I got a unique chance to apply my professional knowledge and design power and energy supply of golf resorts in accordance with the standards in accordance with high environmental protection. The resorts can become the engines of green growth by choosing proper energy efficient solutions to their infrastructural needs. The security and reliability of energy supply can be provided by exploiting the diversity in the energy resources from the aspect of energy supply.

Education

I was born in Jazavica, former Yugoslavia, Croatia (at present times) and finished a high school in Novska. The faculty of Electrical Engineering, at University of Belgrade I joinned as a student in 1969 and as a research assistent after graduation in 1974 (as the best student in generation). Both, master studies and PhD, I completed at the same Faculty. Later on, I have been in research, teaching and project applications as a assistent up to full professor since 1985.

Profesional data: University professor

My research is specifically focused on Optimization of Power Systems, Power System Planning and Operation, Distribution Systems, Smart Grids, Sustainable Development and the Renewables. I have long supervisory experience resulted in supervised until now: 15 Ph.D. Thesis, 25 Master of Science Thesis and more than 200 Diploma Degree Thesis. I am a Senior Member of IEEE (Chapter Chairman of Yugoslavia IEEE PES Chapter from 1991 to 2001), Member of CIGRE (Conference Internacional des Grandes Reseaux Electriques), Member of CIRED, and Chairman of Energy Expert Association of Serbia from 2005.

Profesional data: Science

I published more than 250 papers (36 in journals with high impact factors, which have been cited more than 500 times). I published 7 books, and I have been leader and key researcher in more than 40 applied and research projects. At the moment I am involved in Horizon 2020 Project ( ,,Small, modular and renewable district heating & cooling grids for communities in South-Eastern Еуропе“).

Professional work

I was the World Bank consultant in Armenia and Yugoslavia, Chairman of the Board – Electric Power Industry of Serbia (from 2002 to 2004), and State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy (from 2008 to 2011).

I speak English and Russian languages.

Resorts can become the engines of green growth by choosing energy efficient solutions to their infrastructure needs. Security and reliability of energy supply can be provided by exploiting diversity in energy resources on supply side. The green growth scenario in resorts can achieve significant reductions in energy consumption and the decline in GHG emissions compared to the “business as usual” baseline scenario. Priority projects include: solar PV and solar thermal provision, heat pumps applications, energy storage, micro grid development, market participation, energy efficient LED street lighting, waste treatment, and e-mobility solutions.

As a university professor, I always want to be at the forefront of developing new technologies for an environmentally sustainable future. To be a part of the Norwegian Golf Development team is a unique challenge to apply all the scientific and professional knowledge and create an organic golf resort and preserve nature. My research topics include green analytical chemistry, studies on the effect of environmental agents on human health, and the development of environmentally friendly methods for practical application of all chemical techniques, the new discoveries, particularly for purification of water.

Education

I was born in Novska, a small town where I finished a high school and developed comunications with people of different nations and religions. The goodfellowship, music and sport made moments devoted to the wide education more bright. Than, I moved to Belgrade where I graduated in 1973 at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy (in further text Faculty), University of Belgrade (UofB). During the two centuries, UofB greatly contributed to the development of cultural, scientific, educational, political and economic life of our country. MSc and PhD in the Analytical Chemistry, I finished at the same Faculty in 1977, and 1986, respectively.

Profesional data: University professor

Joined the Faculty in 1974 where I was a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Quality Control. Department gives eleven different courses on undergraduate study for almost 250 students. Most of the research at the Department is focused on the development of physical and chemical methods for the analysis of the composition, structure and qualitative properties of different materials, as well as their applications. I am the mentor of great number of BSc, MSc and PhD thesis (15 PhD students in total, of which six are in progress). The heart of my career belongs to the analytical chemistry, from larger lecture formats to the laboratory settings. My dedication, as a university professor, is to provide my students dynamic, agile, and worthwhile experience in chemistry. I am determined for finding the means to reach out to students and engage them in the learning environment, to advance their way of thinking and explore their pool of interest in the chemistry. In large lecture classes, with the incorporation of modern technologies, I encourage students to engage individually or within groups, to dive into discussions in the major themes of lecture materials. In laboratory settings, along with my teaching assistants, I strive to narrow our lens by providing the experimental set-ups, instrumental operations, and refining the scientific communications.

Profesional data: Science

The scientific interests are devoted to the development of the contemporary methods of chemical analysis, especially for the identification, determination and removal of toxic elements, both from water and air. The coworker or head of 16 projects funded by the Ministry of the Science of Republic of Serbia and 3 international projects (Canada, Russia, EU). A special contribution was accomplished in the field of environmental analysis coupled with purification technology for the removal of arsenic compounds, cyanides and ions of heavy metals from water. The results of scientific research and investigations are published in 207 articles (the chapters in monographies, the papers in journals and proceedings of conference papers). A number of 104 articles, in total, are published in international and national scientific journals (the index of citation is 1123, Hirsch index, h=17, Scopus base, 28.08.2017). The papers were published in highly respectable international journals in the field of Analytical chemistry (Anal Chim Acta, Analyst, Talanta), and in the field of water purification (J Hazard Mater, Desalination, Sep Sci Technol, J Serb Chem Soc). A number of 95 articles are presented in international and national conferences and published as papers in proceedings. I was the reviewer of numerous international scientific papers, the member of board of the Association for Water Technology and Sanitary Engineering, the expert of Accreditation Body of Serbia, the head of the Department of Analytical chemistry and quality control at Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, the founder and head of Center for Water Technology, at Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy. I am the member of Serbian and American Chemical Society. A valuable award that I recieved is: the Honorary professor of Voronezh State Academy of Technology.

Cooperation with other Universities

Very valuable experience was to cooperate with respectable Universities, the scientific groups and recognize scientists in Canada (prof.dr. Michael Thompson), Russia (prof.dr. Yakov Izrailevič Korenman), Austria (prof.dr. Anton Friedl, Uzbekistan (prof.dr. Abdulo Muradovič Nasimov). I spent almost two years at University of Toronto as a Visiting Assistant Professor and a few month at Voronezh State Academy of Tecnology where I was obtained the title of Honorary Professor.

Profesional data: Engineering Sciences

Professional work is devoted to the application of chemical methods of analysis of various materials and practical aspects of best technologies for air and water purification. The most interesting professional work was in the Center for Water Technology, at our Faculty where I was the founder and head of the Center. The main issues were: the environmental impacts of water, design of water treatment plants, chemical control, analysis and monitoring of water quality. The coworker or head of 29 projects and studies for industrial utilities of Serbia: Thermal Power Plant of Serbia, Holcim, US Steel, Hemofarm, Metalac. The author of 4 monographies devoted to analysis, control and purification of water. The author of 6 patents in the field of water purification and monitoring of air quality by chemical sensors. For invention of the patents for water purification got a respectable Tesla medal. Since, my work is devoted to the engineering applications, it was recognized and I am a corresponding memeber of The Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia (AESS) since 2012.

Married from 1974, husband dr Nikola Rajakovic, professor at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, at University of Belgrade, two daughters, dr Vladana Rajaković-Ognjanović (1975) assistant professor at Faculty of Civil Engineering, at University of Belgrade and Mirna Trifunović (1979) manager at Dunav Insurance Company, four grandchildren.

I speak English and Russian. Open interest and wishes to see and introduce more and more people and countries I filfull visiting many interesting countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The most enjoyable time was climbing to unknown, wild nature which is my hobby discovered in the mature ages.

All my carrier is devoted to the education and nurture the hopes for the world: in solving challenges, that cross borders; in unlocking and harnessing new knowledge; in building cultural and political understanding; and in modeling environments that promote freedom to work creatively. I believe in the high creativity of NGD group.
